I’m writing this as his girlfriend, Jessie Driggs. Ronnie Franklin has been nothing but a thoughtful, kind, hard working, honest and loving young man. He spends his days working long, hard hours to provide for him and I. Ronnie works construction where he does road striping. As of around 11:40pm 9/16, he was working on a CalTrans road improvement site on Hwy 101/Broadway in Eureka, CA, setting out safety cones, when he was struck by a drunk driver who swerved around a safety truck and headed straight on for the truck Ronnie was loading road cones on. This has left him with massive life altering injuries. Thankfully, his crew acted quickly & efficiently and was able to stabilize Ronnie, they called 911 where the paramedics and fire arrived and he was then transported to Saint Joes Hospital. He had a badass team of women and men who were working around the clock on him and provided his initial care, they then stabilized him and prepared him for transportation to UC Davis in Sacramento. There, he received multiple surgeries and was then transported to the CTICU unit. His condition is currently stable, but he has a long road of surgeries and recovery ahead of him. I want to ask for everyone to keep him and his family in your thoughts and also his crew members who had to witness this tragedy first hand. This is horrific and none of us really know how to cope or what to do. I’m writing this on behalf of his family who now will have a long line of expenses ahead of them as well as helping him recover. He’s a healthy young man with his whole life ahead of him and we are hopeful for him to make a recovery. I thank everyone for prayers, your thoughts and your good energy, it means the world to his family that his community would show up for him like this and i’m thankful to say I live in Humboldt County, where we show up for each other.
