Safety and Accessibility
This is not an easy post for me to make, as those who know me would tell you, I am a giver. This time, I need to swallow my pride.
As some of you may already know, I am permanently disabled due to Parkinson’s disease and multiple severe spine issues. I am currently facing the reality of needing two spine surgeries over 2 consecutive days totaling approximately 7.5 hours, and my physical limitations continue to increase.
Recently, my rent increased by nearly $500 per month, making my current home no longer affordable. On top of that, the home is upstairs/downstairs, which has become increasingly difficult and unsafe for me to navigate.
My goal is to move into a home where I can live more safely and navigate with the aid of mobility assistance equipment I desperately need. Unfortunately, due to recent government cuts, I lost part of the insurance coverage that would have helped cover some of those costs.
Living on a fixed disability income (which is not a livable wage) means I simply cannot manage these expenses on my own. I’ve tried selling personal belongings to raise money, but it simply isn’t enough. I have tried doing a work from home job which didn’t work out due to physical disability or cognitive changes I’m navigating with the Parkinson’s.
After calculating everything as carefully as possible(+/-), my approximate immediate needs are:
• Security Deposit, application fee, administrative fee, miscellaneous charges for utility management deposits: $1,762
• Mobility Assistance Equipment: $1,744 (tax & delivery included)
• Moving Costs & Supplies: $981
Total Needed: $4,487
Asking for help is incredibly difficult for me. I’ve always tried to handle things on my own, but I have reached a point where I need to be honest about my situation and ask for support. If you are able to donate, share this fundraiser, help with moving, or simply help spread the word to those you know or know me, I would be deeply grateful. Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps move me closer to a safe, affordable, accessible home, and be able to function better.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your kindness and support mean more than I can express to you. I even appreciate the time you took to read this.
Thank You and Best Wishes,
Jae (Julie) Moorman
