Sam & Kerri's Simple Dream
We are seeking donations to make Sam & Kerri's dream of a simple wedding, with family & friends, a reality. Sam is disabled and on SSI. Kerri is between jobs and has a difficult time finding and retaining employment due to serious health issues. She has Coronary Artery Disease & has survived 3 heart attacks, 1st at 33yrs, 2nd at 36yrs & 3rd, in 2009, at 41yrs. In Feb 2009, she had an emergency double coronary by-pass surgery. In July of 2009, it was discovered that she had come down with a rare auto-immune/neurological disorder called Acute Disseminated Encephalo-Myelitis or A.D.E.M. It is a condition which causes the body's own immune system to begin attacking the myelin sheeting that covers the nerves in the brain, spinal cord & optic nerve. The symptomology is identical to Multiple Sclerosis or MS. A.D.E.M., unlike MS, responds to treatment with steroids. She has been in remission since Nov 2009 but has been left with scarring on the brain, which affects her balance and motor function on the left side, a mild case of Bell's Palsy, neurogenic bladder & mild cognitive & memory issues. She was out of work and in recovery until Nov 2015. Because each of these conditions alone are not considered "disabling" by Social Security's definition, she had been denied disability benefits & returned to the workforce in Nov 2015. Because the symptoms from the brain scarring come and go, she has lost several jobs from time lost from work. Sam & Kerri met later in life & both turn 50 yrs old this year. With Sam's SSI and what Kerri earns when working, they can barely meet expenses of living, making saving for a wedding near impossible. Sam's 1st wife left him, & their then 2yr old son, 17yrs ago & Sam raised him on his own. Sam had never gotten a divorce. The money we seek would pay for Sam's divorce, marriage license, Kerri's gown, Sam's tuxedo, hall rental, supplies for food, decorations, invitations & favors. They plan to make it a DIY affair, with help from family & friends. Any help/donations, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated!
