Sara's Breast Cancer Fund

In December 2022, I felt a large lump in my left underarm. Made an appointment with my GYN and he ordered imaging. Well, things happened and I didn't get the appointment. In February 2023, Brad found a lump in my left breast. Insurance nonsense kept us from seeing my GYN until May. Fast forward some weeks and the diagnosis I knew was confirmed. I have invasive, poorly differentiated ductal adenocarcinoma that spread to the lymph nodes. After some more insurance nonsense, I had an appointment July 10 at Duke University Breast Cancer Clinic. My medical oncologist is amazing!! One nice thing my cancer did for me was to be the right type to enter into a research study!!! I am grateful for that and it has eased my mind and heart. After some imaging studies, I was told my cancer is stage 3. Treatment started July 31 (my sister's birthday and the day my dad passes) and chemo will continue weekly into December. I'll get a short recovery before the double mastectomy and lymphectomy. I'll recover for a bit before having 3-5 weeks of daily radiation. After some recovery, I'll have plastic surgery, and after a bit of recovery from that, I'll have a total hysterectomy. This is about a year of treatment. Whoa, right!?!?

A lot of treatment for a very nasty cancer. Due to all this treatment, I am not able to work. I started working here in NC in July 2022. Didn't even make my 1-year anniversary!! My place of employment is amazing and my job is waiting for me whenever I am ready to come back! My practice was just starting to take off when I had to step back.

The driving so many times to Duke is quite taxing. 170 miles each trip. Leaving our kiddos so much. Obviously, I am asking for help to ease the burden my family is facing. If you're not able to donate, your prayers are coveted. I thank you all for your prayerful consideration in how you're able to bless my family.
