Sebastian Fights Cancer
Update :
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Sebastian Alexander, who has been called home to the Lord.
Sebastian fought a brave and tireless battle against cancer. Despite the brutal toll of his illness, his radiant smile never failed to light up a room. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers, particularly his loving parents and sister, during this unimaginably difficult time.
Though we cannot take away the pain of losing Sebas, we can come together to ease his family's financial worries. We are raising funds to help cover funeral costs and outstanding medical expenses. Your prayers, shared memories, and donations mean the world to us.
=====================================
A couple of weeks after his 3rd birthday, Sebastian Alexander, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, neuroblastoma. It is a rare form of cancer that develops in immature nerve tissue, most often affecting children under age 5. Most common symptoms include belly pain, wheezing and eye changes.
Sebastian’s diagnosis began with a routine doctor’s visit where they found him iron deficient. After iron supplements did not work, a cold/flu that became severe with shortness of breath, and multiple Emergency Room visits- doctors finally took XRAY’s and MRI’s where they found a mass – it was cancer. It had already spread to his stomach, spleen, liver, optical nerve making his battle and journey more complex.
Sebastian has undergone : multiple iron infusions, a medically-induced coma & intubation after complications, radiation near his optical nerve [ there is concern of vision loss] , four rounds of chemotherapy, and is currently preparing for surgery. His treatment plan calls for at least 9-10 months of chemotherapy, radiation, stem-cell replacement, therapy – physical, occupational and speech.
Having to move out-of-state for his medical care has generated loss of income. We have hesitated to set up any kind of fundraiser but it has become increasingly harder to keep up with all financial responsibilities at home, being present for Sebastian’s care and treatment and trying to keep a stable environment for his 6-year-old sister, Arianna.
Despite everything, Sebastian has not given up and was able to come out of the coma and is now breathing on his own. He continues to be the funniest, sweetest and most loving boy. People can’t help being drawn to his light and melting when he gives them that big, beautiful smile. He loves Spiderman and sports and being silly.
If you cannot donate, please consider sharing Sebastian’s story. We can’t thank everyone enough for all of the prayers and support. We never imagined ourselves in this position, but knowing that we have a tribe that surrounds us has given us strength.
