Send Student Leaders to GCN
Join us in raising funds to send Christian LGBTQ+ students to the Gay Christian Network (GCN) Conference in Denver, Colorado from January 18 - January 20, 2018.
Please note this fundraiser is organized by an independent student group and is not sponsored by The King's University. As such, no tax receipts can be given for contributions to this campaign.
A small group of students from The King's University, a Christian liberal arts institution in Edmonton, Alberta oversee S.P.E.A.K. (Sexuality, Pride, Equality, Alliance at King's). This student led group primarily stands to provide a safe space for queer and questioning students and secondarily to foster community and learning within that safe space. It is an inclusive community that seeks to bring LGBTQ+ students together to discuss topics of sexuality and gender in a non-discriminatory environment. This group has also taken on the role of educating the wider King's community about important LGBTQ+ issues.
This year we would like to send the leadership team from this group to the GCN Conference in Denver, Colorado in order to provide them with resources and to encourage them in their efforts to educate and provide support for students at King's.
Each January, Christians from around the world gather at the GCN Conference for fellowship, worship, support, and more. Featuring world-class speakers, thought-provoking content, and the opportunity to be in fellowship with hundreds of LGBTQ+ Christians, the conference is a friendly, uplifting weekend for people of all backgrounds to make new friends, share their stories, and have their faith re-energized.(http://www.gcnconf.com)
While we are currently in the process of applying for scholarships to the conference, we need to secure funding quickly to ensure the best prices for flights and accommodations. As such, if any scholarship money is secured, additional funds raised will go towards including more student leaders in the trip, or be donated back to the GCN conference.
Our estimated budget for this project are as follows for 4 student leaders and 1 chaperone to attend the Conference.
