Shining Light Documentary
Shining Light is a powerful Vietnamese Canadian legacy story of survival, separation, and reunion. It follows the extraordinary true journey of a mother and daughter who were stranded on the rooftop of the American Embassy during the Fall of Saigon in April 1975—just moments before the final U.S. helicopter lifted off. What unfolds next is an astonishing escape by cargo ship, a birth at sea, and a rescue that ultimately led to a new life in Canada.
Now, 50 years later, they return to Montreal with the very people who helped shape their survival—from the British helicopter crew to the Canadian immigration officer—to piece together a remarkable story of resilience and belonging.
