Shoes for Back to School
Dear Friends & Family –
About 35 years ago, we learned about a young girl who was struggling in school. One day she was engaged, talking and outgoing, but the next day she was painfully quiet and withdrawn. The teacher contacted the mother to voice her concerns.
The girl's mother confessed that she is the mother of twins, but they only have one pair of shoes. So the girls alternated days at school.
Our mother, Kathy, thought it was fundamentally unfair to expect the poor to pull themselves out of poverty when they lack the necessities of life. So she decided to do something about it.
For the past 34 years, Mom collected shoes and every other back-to-school item for the least fortunate in the City of Saint Louis. Many of you know that our Mom passed away on August 23, 2017. She had just completed her 34th back to school drive.
Last week, the director of the center that distributes the back-to-school supplies called our father to ask if he planned to help. Of course, Dad said yes, and we volunteered to help.
So, our goal is to raise enough money to buy 100 pairs of shoes (appx $2000). We'd love to have your support. This is a time sensitive request as the back to school drive is Sunday, August 12, 2018. Apologies for the short notice!
100% of all donations will go directly to the Wilhelmina Hardin Food Pantry located at St. Alphonsus "Rock" Liguori Church at 1118 North Grand Blvd. St. Louis, MO 63106.
