Sidney's Story
🐾 It’s a Miracle I’m Alive!🐾
Hi everybody! My name is Sidney. I’m a big, brave 3-year-old Papillon. My dad, Keith Canfield, calls me Sid-Vicious. Don’t tell him, but I’m actually a sweet little cuddle bug. ❤️ Just ask my Mama, Cara Canfield.
This past week, my family and I went through the scariest experience of our lives.
I had a freak medical emergency that nearly cost me my life and required emergency specialty surgery. My veterinarian, who has been practicing for 20 years, had never seen anything like this before.
Have you ever heard of a hair tourniquet? If you haven’t, take a moment to Google it. Now imagine that wrapped tightly around a very sensitive part of a little boy dog. 😢
The hair had become so tightly wrapped that it was cutting off circulation and causing severe damage and bleeding. At first, nobody knew exactly what was wrong. By the time the hair tourniquet was discovered, my situation had become extremely serious. My veterinarian knew I needed specialized care that simply wasn't available there, so my family rushed me to Pittsburgh. They had no idea what was going to happen when they got me there, or whether they would be able to save me.
The specialists determined that I needed a partial amputation and reconstructive surgery to give me a chance to survive. My family was absolutely terrified, but me? I’m big and brave, remember?
🐾❤️
After surgery and a very scary overnight stay, I made it! I’m finally home with my family and, thankfully, I’m recovering well. I still have a long road ahead of me, but I’m here—and that’s something my family is incredibly grateful for.
Unfortunately, saving my life came with a very large and unexpected financial cost.
That’s where I need your help.
I know times are difficult, and I completely understand that not everyone is in a position to donate. But if you are able to give, even a few dollars, it would mean more to me and my family than we could ever put into words. Every little bit helps us defray the cost of the emergency care, specialty surgery, hospitalization, and recovery that saved my life.
And if you can't donate, please don't think that means you can't help. Sharing my story can help us reach someone who can. A shared link, a kind message, or a prayer for my continued recovery means the world to my family, too. ❤️
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for helping in whatever way you can. We are incredibly grateful for every donation, every share, every kind word, and every person who takes a moment to care about one little dog who just wasn't ready to leave his family yet.
With lots of love and a whole lot of tail wags,
Sidney “The Brave” Canfield 🐾❤️
