My name is Hope. I’m a Criminal Justice student at SNHU—just one class shy of graduating—while working 20 hours a week at Washington’s $16.28/hr minimum wage and volunteering at our community legal aid clinic. I’m also the sole caregiver for my 7-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter.

Two weeks ago, I was rushed to the ICU with pregnancy-related sepsis. After ten harrowing days fighting for my life, I lost our baby at 22 weeks and now face $800 in out-of-pocket hospital charges. Returning home, I discovered my rent payment—due on the 1st—is now two days overdue. My partial payment covered most of it, but I still owe $300 before my landlord assesses late fees or issues a notice. I also have zero left for groceries, diapers, or gas to get my children to daycare so I can keep my shifts and finish school.

I’m asking for $1,200 to cover:

• $800 toward unpaid hospital expenses from my sepsis treatment and emergency surgery
• $300 to bring my rent fully current (two days late) and avoid any late-fee penalties
• $100 for groceries, diapers, and gas so my kids stay fed, warm, and on schedule

This grant lifts us out of crisis and gives me the breathing room to:

• Heal fully and return to my studies with perfect attendance
• Maintain my work hours so I can stay on top of future bills
• Continue volunteering to defend low-income families through our legal clinic
