Stable housing to heal

I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January unexpectedly. At the time of the diagnosis my husband and I were planning to move to PA from IN and decided to move forward with the plans because PA has better Healthcare. We stayed with an old friend but soon found temporarily staying in the hotel my husband works at was safer.

With one week until we had to leave, and help with funding from a local catholic organization we were able to rent an apartment.

Our now landlord was dishonest from our first conversation. The "mess" our downstairs neighbor had in the yard was not due to her moving within the week per our landlord's claim. The neighbor was a heavy drug addict and a hoarder. She littered the yard with rotting garbage, junk and buckets of human feces with dead animals floating in them.

Since moving in we have dealt with rodent and bug infestations, break ins, court dates, negligence, calls to the police and lies from our landlord. We have paid $750 a month for a place that is barely habitable and was supposed to be home.

Now we have found that our radiators don't work, we have no heat and our landlord has done nothing despite being notified 4 days ago. We are having an inspection done on the 2nd of October by Altoona code enforcement. The unit will fail. We will legally be able to break our lease with no penalty but we have no money to secure another apartment. Especially if we still have to pay $750 rent on the first. I have an oncology appointment 2 hours away in Pittsburgh to start my treatment finally on October 14th. But now im not sure I'll even have a home to come back to after. We got 3 kittens to combat the rodent problem and we love them dearly. I cant handle the stress of homelessness again, we cant lose anything else and now we have our 3 baby kitties to keep safe. If anyone can donate anything it would be a tremendous help, thank you so much.
