My husband has been my best friend for 17 years. He met my oldest daughter when she was three years old and entered her life in a parental role when she was six. We got married at the height of the pandemic right before she turned nine. He's always wanted to adopt her but we wanted to wait until it's what she wanted as well. Now here we are, three and a half years into our marriage and she's let us know she wants him as her dad on paper because hes been her dad for half her life and to her, he's the only dad she needs. Her biological father hasn't been involved in some time in anyway but we've been informed we still have to notify him of intent to adopt which leads us to needing a lawyer or mediator. We can't even get in the door without almost $300 and I know this is going to be a long and expensive road but we want this to happen and will do what we can. We just need the help if you're willing<3
