Strikebreaker- Short Film

A true story about the worst baseball player you've never heard of.

Strikebreaker is the true story of Father Allan Travers, a Catholic priest who holds the Major League Baseball record for most runs allowed in a single game: 24. Despite playing only one game, Travers delivered what is widely considered the worst pitching performance in MLB history, a record that has yet to be matched. This film explores the nature of failure and the tension between our dreams and reality.

Director's Statement

Hi! I'm Griffin Douglass, an award-winning filmmaker based in Orange County, and former baseball player. I'm the writer and director of Strikebreaker.

In the years since I've graduated from film school, I've often felt that I should be doing more with my creative talents. I work a full-time job, but often daydream of working in a more creative profession. I continually ask myself how I can do good work, even when I'm not in the job I feel called to. This film came out of that frustration.

When I first heard about Allan Travers, I immediately empathized with him, and began to write a story based on this moment in his life.

How can a person of faith honor God while still pursuing their passions? How involved is God in our successes and our failures? How can we be ambitious while also accepting the limitations of what we have?

This film will explore the tension between God’s will, humanity’s ambition, and the nature of failure. Taking inspiration from films like Wake Up Dead Man (2025), The Sandlot (1993), and Moneyball (2011), I aim to make a film that's full of heart, character-driven, and entertaining. I invite you to financially partner with our team to bring this story to life. Play ball!

Cast and Crew

This unique story is written and directed by Griffin Douglass, an award winning filmmaker from Southern California. He’s drawn to telling character-driven stories that explore what it means to be a human, balancing both humor and heart. He’s best known for directing “Under Refurbishment", an award-winning short film that aired on PBS and was selected to screen at the San Diego International Film Festival, Dances with Films, and the KCET Fine Cut Festival of Films. He’s still recovering from his sudden transformation into a puppet several years ago, as depicted in his award-winning short film, “Never Felt Better”.

Alongside Griffin are his producers Jonny Harmon and Po Yin Sham. With multiple award accolades including a nomination for the Television Academy’s College Television Awards (known also as the Student Emmy’s) and their work being screened at Oscar and BAFTA-qualifying festivals as well as streaming services like Disney Plus, Jonny and Po Yin bring a lot of learned experience to this project and are so excited to bring it to life.

They are also joined by co-producers Cait Krengel & Po Yin Sham, whose films have been nominated in Oscar and BAFTA-qualifying film festivals. We also have Director of Photography Graham Skinner, Production Designer Annabel Grace Regier, and Editor Matt Yen on board.
