Support for Lilac
Hi everyone,
I’ve created this fundraiser in support of my dog, Lilac. She is a 4-year-old pug that I adopted from a pug rescue in October 2024. She is a sweet (and spicy) girl that brings joy wherever she goes. She loves people, food, cuddles, food, naps, and food.
Unfortunately, this year Lilac developed chronic UTIs and ear infections which required surgeries. Both conditions reached the point where antibiotics were not effective and would have caused other health issues if not treated. Though I have pet insurance and set aside savings for Lilac, having back-to-back major surgeries in our first year together was unanticipated.
- The first surgery was a vulvaplasty to correct her recessed vulva that was trapping urine within the folds, leading to UTIs. Per a pre-surgery ultrasound, it was also noted that Lilac had a few bad teeth. The surgeon recommended pulling these while she was already under anesthesia. The day of surgery dental scan revealed that a lot more teeth needed to be extracted than originally thought. Lilac had about 16 teeth extracted. Though not ideal, it was necessary for her health.
- Due to the severity of her chronic ear infections, as soon as Lilac recovered from the first surgery, she had the second surgery, a TECA (Total Ear Canal Ablation) of her left ear. This procedure is a “last resort” surgery for severe, chronic infections. Her left ear canal was removed, as well as the infected tissue, and the ear was cleaned and closed. Thankfully, testing of the removed tissue did not present additional issues. However, she is now deaf in that ear.
I know my ask is one among many, but if you are able to contribute anything, any amount donated will go directly toward reducing the economic strain of the TECA surgery which was not covered by insurance. Any funds raised above this amount will go to easing the burden of the items of the first surgery my insurance did not cover.
Thank you,
Lilac and Sarah
