HOME for a HERO

On October 5, the Batson's, a family of five lost their home to a devastating house fire. Moments before the fire started, the parents had left the oldest of their children to watch his two siblings while they went to help a friend. Little did they know, disaster would strike and Dylan, their son, would save his brother and sisters lives. Dylan, who is twelve years old, was able to get his brother, sister, dog and two cats safely out of the home. He then went to the neighbors house, who called the fire department. Dylan then went back into the smoke filled home to get his backpack which contained his Chromebook for school. He and the neighbor tried to contain the fire until the fire department arrived. Unfortunately, the house and all of its contents were a total loss. The Batson's, new to the area of Dubois county, were left homeless.

The family has been temporarily staying in a camper on their property since the fire. Through emotional moments, they tore down the remnants of their charred beloved home by hand, trying to move forward. They had just moved here a year earlier to give their children a better life than where they lived before. They have recently secured a mobile home in which they've moved onto their property. Sadly, they don't have the means to afford necessary materials needed to run utilities and insulate the home; both of which are needed before the home can be lived in. Mr. Batson has been on medical leave from work due to back surgery since right before the fire. Mrs. Batson was a stay at home mom at the time of the fire. As you can imagine, just making ends meet for bills alone has been a task. Further progress to move into their home has now come to a standstill due to lack of funds.

With Christmas right around the corner, and an already full plate, the Batson's still hope to provide a happy holiday for the children. “The main thing on all of our Christmas list's is to get into our home!”

Any help would be greatly appreciated and will go directly to support the Batson family. Thank you for your help during this difficult time and God bless.
