Surgery Fund!
Howdy!
About a year ago, I completed the requirements to become eligible for gender-affirming care through my insurance. About a week before my first procedure was scheduled, I got a call that there is an upcoming appointment available for me for top surgery. I have been waiting about a year for an appointment, which is still a lot less time than many people have to wait! Unfortunately, however, because it is coming so fast on the heels of my previous surgery, the medical bills are starting to add up. My out-of-pocket estimate for the upcoming surgery is about $1200 (after insurance--and still, again, that's a lot less than many people pay!), and I've already paid $520 for my previous surgery, plus $260 for my pre-op checkup and $381 for my upcoming post-op visit. I am hesitant to postpone the surgery because of the draconian legislation being enacted around the U. S. pertaining to trans people and gender-affirming care--because of the strong anti-trans stance of the current presidential administration, this may be the last opportunity I have to get this surgery legally in the U. S. (and I can't afford to go out of the country to get it).
