Terri's Stroke Recovery
My nieces went to my papa's house after the homecoming game on 10/03/2025 and found my mom, Terri Jo, unconscious on the living room floor. They called 911 and while waiting on EMS to get there they were talking to mom and the only response they could make out was her saying "yea" but everything else was just slurred words. When EMS arrived they got mom stable enough for transport and informed us that mom would be star flighted to Dell Seton in Austin. Maybe an hour later (I don't think it was even that long really) we called the hospital and the lady we talked to told us that they thought mom had had a stroke and that she was going to have a doctor call us to tell us exactly what was going on. It seemed like a lifetime had passed (it was about 15 minutes) by the time the doctor called and told us that mom had had a stroke which caused a massive bleed and a pretty big blood clot on the right side of her brain and that they were taking her in to emergency surgery and he was going to do everything he could to save mom's life and by the grace of God that surgeon and his team saved my mom's life that night. The first 24 hours after surgery were absolutely terrifying because everything was still up in the air and we didn't know if she was going to make it through the night or how much brain damage was done.
Right now, mom has no function on the left side of her body and her speech is also gone but her care team say that it could all come back to her eventually but it will probably be awhile. Mom is able to respond to yes or no questions by shaking/nodding her head and she is able to follow commands with her right side. She does thumbs up, waves, the ASL sign for i love you and a couple more. We're so very proud of the amazing progress she has already made but she has a long road of recovery ahead of her. So, once her care team thinks she's strong enough she has to go to a rehabilitation center where she will start more intense speech and physical therapies to continue her progression.
My mom is an amazing, caring, strong, kind hearted person that would do just about anything to help someone out but unfortunately she doesn't have health insurance right now so all of the medical care costs are out of pocket and are quickly adding up. We are eternally grateful for any and all donations, shares, prayers, etc.
I'll do my best to post regular updates for everyone.
There's not enough thank you's in this world to say how much we genuinely appreciate any and all help.
Sincerely,
Terri's girls (Jennifer, Bette, Holli, Loretta)
