Help Bring The Hive to Life
Winner! 1st Place for Feature Film - Sci-Fi/Fantasy at the 2026 International Horror Hotel Film Festival
Honorable Mention - Frights! Camera! Action! Screenplay Contest (2026)
Honorable Mention - 13Horror.com Screenplay Contest
The Hive is a psychological sci-fi horror feature exploring our growing dependence on technology, and the price of allowing it to decide who we become.
What if the technology designed to optimize your life slowly began making your decisions for you?
The Hive is an award-winning sci-fi horror feature film that explores ambition, belonging, and the cost of surrendering our humanity in the pursuit of a "better" life. Set in a near-future world where a powerful app promises to optimize every aspect of its users' lives, The Hive asks a timely question: What happens when optimization becomes obsession?
Rather than waiting for permission to tell this story, I'm taking the next step by creating a cinematic proof of concept: a collection of professionally produced scenes that will showcase the film's world, tone, and visual style. This proof of concept will be used to pitch the feature film to producers, investors, and production companies.
As an independent filmmaker, I believe great stories don't have to wait for a greenlight. They begin with people who believe in them.
Your support will help fund:
- Professional cast and crew
- Camera, lighting, and sound equipment
- Filming locations
- Production design, props, and wardrobe
- Editing, color grading, and sound design
- Music, visual finishing, and other post-production costs
Every contribution, no matter the size, brings The Hive one step closer to becoming a feature film.
Whether you're able to contribute financially or share this campaign with others, your support means the world to me. Thank you for believing in independent filmmaking, in original storytelling, and in this project.
Together, we can take The Hive from an award-winning screenplay to the screen.
About The Film
When struggling artist Dana Gardner lands her dream job at the company behind the app, it feels like the opportunity she's been waiting for. But as the line between convenience and control blurs, Dana finds herself questioning whether the life she's building is truly her own or one carefully chosen for her.
Blending psychological horror, corporate satire, and science fiction, The Hive explores ambition, identity, and what it means to remain human in a world increasingly shaped by algorithms.
About The Writer
Taylor Kellar is an award-winning screenwriter, actor, and filmmaker passionate about telling emotionally resonant stories that blend heart, humor, and humanity. With a background in theatre and a growing focus on film and television, she brings grounded performances, sharp comedic timing, and a distinctive creative voice to every project she undertakes.
Her work includes a sold-out staged reading of her original screenplay Back to the Future IV: A New Dimension, along with continued development of original projects for screen. Her original screenplay, The Hive, received first place at the 2026 International Horror Hotel Film Festival for the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Feature Film category.
What Is a Proof of Concept?
A proof of concept is a short, professionally produced showcase of a film's world, tone, and visual style. Rather than telling the entire story, it demonstrates what the finished feature could look and feel like.
For The Hive, we'll be filming several key scenes that capture the film's atmosphere, characters, and central themes. This proof of concept will become an essential part of our pitch package as we approach producers, investors, and production companies to secure financing for the full-length feature.
Think of it as the first step toward bringing The Hive to the big screen. By seeing the world of The Hive come to life, potential producers can better envision the scope, tone, and commercial potential of the feature film.
How Your Support Will Be Used
Every dollar raised through this campaign will go directly toward creating a professional proof of concept for The Hive. Our goal is to produce a polished, cinematic presentation that accurately reflects the vision of the feature film and can be used to pitch producers, investors, and production companies.
Cast & Crew
Independent filmmaking is a collaborative art form. Your support allows us to hire talented actors and experienced crew members—including a cinematographer, sound recordist, production assistants, hair and makeup artists, and other key collaborators who will help bring The Hive to life.
Camera, Lighting & Sound Equipment
High-quality visuals and clean audio are essential to creating a proof of concept that reflects the standard of a feature film. Funding will help cover professional camera, lighting, grip, and sound equipment rentals.
Locations
Finding the right locations is critical to building the world of The Hive. Funds will help secure filming locations and any associated permits or location fees.
Production Design, Wardrobe & Props
The visual identity of The Hive is a key part of its storytelling. Contributions will support wardrobe, props, set dressing, and other design elements that establish the film's distinctive corporate-tech aesthetic.
Post-Production
Once filming is complete, the footage will be professionally edited, color graded, and mixed with sound design and music to create a polished final product worthy of presentation to industry professionals.
Production Expenses
Your support also helps cover the countless behind-the-scenes costs that keep a production running smoothly, including insurance, meals for cast and crew, transportation, production supplies, and contingency expenses.
Every contribution, whether $10 or $1,000, helps transform an award-winning screenplay into a cinematic proof of concept and brings The Hive one step closer to becoming a feature film.
