Hi there, my name is Jen Tidwell. My wife Jen (yes, we have the same first name) and I had our daughter Eilis in 2019. I carried and my wife cheer-led. We'd always hoped that simply having my wife listed as the second parent on Eilis's birth certificate would be enough. And here in our home state of WA, it generally is. But with the new Federal administration coming into office in 2025, and our rights as LGBTQ+ citizens directly threatened, we're now rushing to complete a 'second parent adoption' as quickly as possible.

The thing that held us back filing the 2nd Parent Adoption initially when Eilis was born - and in subsequent years - was the cost of the process. We simply could not afford it. But now, we must find a way.

Here is the breakdown of the legal fees:

Adoption Attorney retainer fee: $1500

Adoption/Court Fees: $500

Social Worker Homestudy fee: $750

Total: $2750

We've already put down an initial deposit with our attorney of $1000. This leaves a balance of $1750.

We're asking for help raising $1500 of the balance.

Anything helps. We're in a rush to pay the remaining, because the legal process won't start until it's paid off.

Our goal is to have everything as near to complete at possible by January 20th, 2025.
