Third Eye Fund
Dear Friends,
Sadly, we where forced to close our brick and motor store located inside the Aspire Building at 2601 SE 160th ave due to the challenges of COVID-19 restrictions and reopening. Before COVID 19 hit, we were happy and content with our small vibrant store. We were able to utilize other parts of the building for various events such as book fairs, local author readings and my favorite Kemetic Yoga classes. We started the Yoga classes last December 2019 and we met faithfully on Saturday's at Third Eye Books for about 3 months. It was a hit!
Unfortunately, all these efforts had to stop during the COVID 19 shutdown with the closing of our doors. Then the news got worse. The owners of the building called from out of town and decided to go in a different direction. To sell the building. We had enough time to liquidate store fixtures and move our books into a storage locker.
Since we have moved all our books online and now operate out of a spare bedroom and storage locker. Our dream is to find a new location to reopen Third Eye Books. It would be more than a bookstore as we like to refer to our selves as. We plan to offer a wider selection of books that will be tightly curated to meet the needs of Portland's BIPOC community. To create a full calendar of events and activities that will allow Third Eye Books and its community members to become anchored and grow within a thriving and diverse community in Portland.
Third Eye Books Accessories and Gifts LLC is an independent bookstore. Our mission is to empower and enhance the lives of Black Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) community members and to create a high quality, welcoming bookstore experience for all to enjoy. The storefront is intended not only to be a bookstore but a haven for authors, writers, poets and other community members. Also providing a comfortable space and hosting community events to encourage reading and community building. We will create the kind of bookstore that people would love to visit. A combination of awesome books, refreshing smoothies, coffee and tea, plus adding a specialty menu are some the ideas and vision we have for the new Third Eye Books location. An additional goal is to expand our retail offering of t-shirts, jewelry, body butters, incense, tarot cards and other metaphysical gifts/ products to the public
In addition, we envision expanding our outreach efforts in working with more local charities and literacy projects to ensure access of books for all communities. We are committed to close the literacy gap of vulnerable children in our community through innovated programming and building community awareness.
