Triss Was Shot In Her Jaw
When you are a sweet English Pointer with sparkly little moon eyes that light up the whole world and you get hurt, but have so many people wanting you to get better....
UPDATE June 7, 2PM:
Here is Triss' CT scan results. The tube in her mouth is a breathing tube. The shattered bone is on her left side. https://www.facebook.com/americanpointerrescue/videos/1853006231658608/
Because she has significant fragmentation, and infection still clearing up, reconstructing the bone with a graft is the best option rather than using a plate. In this case, bone tissue is being taken from her shoulder via a small hole and packed in that area. This new bone material will be soft at first and naturally mesh with all the small pieces and surrounding bone. As it hardens over the next 2-3 months, it will form a new fresh bone over the entire area and that will give her back her jaw. She will have a temporary pin inserted during healing to support the area.
Triss is having this procedure done this afternoon so please keep her in your thoughts.
Thank you all again so much for the outpouring of support we've received. The rescue community really is amazing!! <3

UPDATE June 6, 2018, 9:50am: Thank you all so much who have donated towards Triss' surgery so far. We are over 25% of our goal in just one day. Please keep this momentum going for Triss. She is headed to her specialist appointment this morning. Thank you all again!

We are asking that you please support Triss so she can undergo repair surgery on her jaw.
Triss had just recently been saved from a kill shelter by a local family. She had made it to the good life, then one night in May she darted out the door in excitement as her new dad was getting the leash to go on a walk and she went running in the woods. The next morning, someone was bringing her to the vet with a bleeding, hanging jaw. At first it was thought she might have been bit by a snake. But x-rays showed a shattered lower left jaw and buckshot pellets lodged in the tissue. Triss had been shot while out during the night, while her family anxiously looked for her.
Her new family, on the advice of their veterinarian, took her to a specialist but were unable to afford the cost of surgery. So Triss was surrendered to us.
We reached out to our friend and trusted board surgeon, Dr. Michael Schlicksup at Columbia Veterinary Emergency Trauma & Specialty (CVETS) in South Carolina and he agreed to work with us to help Triss.
We are immensely thankful that Triss remained safe through this ordeal. Please keep her in your thoughts as she awaits surgery and help us show her that no matter what happened or who tried to hurt her, in the end kindness and love will win.
Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser with others. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
