Veronica's Fight

One of our sweet friends, Veronica Stephenson, is facing challenging times after already being through so much in her life — becoming a paraplegic 12 years ago. She's now dealing with cancer. I'd love your support in raising funds for her & her family while her husband is on unpaid leave to help take care of her after surgery. She shares her words below regarding the challenges she faces. I'd love to be able to help them to make this stressful time a little more manageable.

“The surgery did go well with no complications. Unfortunately, it wasn't the “best case scenario” surgery that I wanted. The tumor was triple the size they thought it was and in addition to removing my uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes, they also had to remove my ovaries. The goal was to keep my ovaries due to so many benefits of having them. Having my ovaries not only helped with heart health, bone health, etc… it also kept me from going into menopause. Forced menopause is known to be way worse than normal menopause. Therefore, I will be beginning hormone therapy in two weeks. In two weeks, I'll also find out what stage cancer it is (I was a grade 1 before the surgery, but they bumped it up to a grade 2. But stages are different) and if I'll be moving into radiation or chemotherapy if it's needed. I feel like this entire journey so far has just been one big waiting game, slowly waiting for more answers. I did get to come home last night to begin my 6 week recovery. Once all of the anesthesia wore off at home, I was able to take in all of the above information and I just cried into my mom and Brian's arms. I'm also in a lot of pain. I'd love if I could get continued prayers. Prayers for the pain to go away quickly, for me to be strong, for good news in two weeks, for my hormone therapy to be a success and not have to try too many different variations before finding what balances for me the best, for our finances since Brian is on unpaid leave to take care of me, and prayers for just better health. My mom hugged me yesterday and said “you're the strongest person I know, and I'm so sorry that you have to be.” I try my hardest to be, but it is exhausting. I'm praying for all of the above, plus better days. Again, thank you for the prayers, love, and support. It truly means so much to me.”
