visiting mom one last time

My dear mother, Miss Emma. She's in hospice now, they are trying to make her as comfortable as possible but I know she's scared. No one wants to feel their own end coming on, I hope she can find the peace of mind and spirit to relieve her fear. I wish I could give her 10 more years but I don't have that ability. Our friend visited her and allowed is to face time. We tried to show her a brave face but we could see in her eyes she fear her end is closer than she is ready for. It's heartbreaking. On the way out our friend heard her say she wanted to go back to the hospital and would comply with the doctors not realizing that her options are only for her end of life care as she wouldn't survive an operation or heroic measures to save her life. She feels that she wants to change her mind and have heroic measures to give her more time. The doctors say no anesthesiologist would risk putting her under as they couldn't be assured she'd come out of it. It's so hard to deny her request when it's beyond our ability to help.
Sad, frustrating, helpless with a sense of failure for not making her take better care of herself when I know my own failings in the very same way when I lost my foot. I wish I could make her comfortable and peaceful in her last days.
