Wheelchair repair
Hi;
I just got a wonderful new wheelchair, my 5 yr replacement came with all the bells and whistles. Sadly, while out enjoying the city I took a turn down a road with construction. My tire is a pneumatic tire and the tube popped. I do not know if I picked up a nail or just hit a pothole too hard but now I have a chair I can't use. I do still have possession of my old chair but it causes me injury to use it. It's actually 6 years old and very beaten up. Bald tires, ripped seat, broken bolts holding the chair to the base cause the seat to rock and set off muscle spasms. Having it is a help but I'd rather be in the new chair that better supports my health's deterioration.
It's now 2 weeks later, I'm still without a functioning chair. If I buy the parts and do the work myself, I void the warranty on a 2 month old chair. It's $417 to get the parts and have a tech come replace it. Manufacturer requires them to replace both tires if one goes bad so it's a much higher cost than it should be. Durable Medical Equipment (DME) is overpriced. The markups are crazy. I put it on my credit card but dread paying that off. With prices on everything going up and my income being stagnant from SSDI, I'm in a financial hole. Payments on that balance will be difficult on me.
If you're willing to help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
