Journey

In March 2006 Willy was on vacation, taking a break from the cold Minnesota winter, and while on that trip got hurt and believed he broke some ribs due to pains. Upon returning home, he went to St. Cloud to get some x-rays which doctors then told him it was cancer. After further testing they discovered it was not cancer, but that he has a rare autoimmune disease called sarcoidosis. With this disease it made it harder to breathe due to the growths on his lungs. He spent many years fighting for breath and working through painful coughing spouts that put him in the hospital multiple times. In spring 2021, he was placed on full time oxygen and by winter 2021, he was in even worse condition and was finally approved to be placed onto the transplant list for a double lung transplant.

The dream finally became a reality when the family received the call early morning on December 21, 2022. Willy has received the greatest gift of life thanks to an amazing organ donor. As you can imagine, the financial burden of medical bills & the inability for either Willy or Lucy to work for months on end can be overwhelming and stressful, this benefit will help lower the burden on the family.
