PNWDigital.net is an organization of Ham Radio Operators who have developed a DMR repeater network located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. This organization provides area Amateur Radio Operators with the means to communicate across the region, the country and the world. We are primarily active in this region and provide communications during emergencies but more often our services support public services. It is also a hobby and makes for a grand blend of providing service our communities as well as developing our hobby.

PNWDigital organized in 2013 with 3 repeaters and 4 founding members and we have grown about 2,050 members. Over the past 10 years, we have grown to over 100 repeaters/servers/c-Bridges/MMDVM servers/Internet Sites. We do not charge any fees, dues or initiation to join our organization or use our repeaters. It is free of costs to our members.

What is different about the PNWDigital is that our goal is to maximize coverage by single repeaters. In case the IP network (Internet) fails partially or completely in an emergency, our repeaters all continue to to function, pass traffic and many of them cover wide areas of our region. The current movement in public services, business and government services is "micro-cells" (similar to cellular phone/data), limited coverage and IP linking being necessary. We are going the other direction, back toward the old days approach of high altitude repeater sites for our EmComm effort.

We are entirely self-funded by a few core members supplemented by a small donor group effort. We all have invested well over $250,000 individually or in small groups to create, manage, maintain and grow our communications systems and networks. Our current monthly operating expenses are above $1,200 a month just for a small part of our group assets. This doesn't include existing site maintenance, new repeater deployments or other growth goals.

We have suggested to our members that a single donation of $25 per year would keep us fully funded for operation and multi-repeater growth for many years. But on average, donations received are less than one quarter of our monthly costs for Internet, insurance and site leases alone.

During Covid-19 we initiated our fundraiser for Valley Camp and raised $5,415 in 2020 (shown below). We have never fundraised for our own benefit, but we are now taking a stab at keeping our own lights on into the future. This fundraiser is meant to help us cover our operating costs. Growth will be funded as it is available independent of ongoing monthly/annual costs. Our need is to be able to cover our operating costs with a goal of $1,500 a month as a slight cushion for additional costs and inflation. That pencils out currently (2023) to about $18,000 per year.
